Whatever the Narrative Might Be, It’s Just Like Old Times

As soon as Gill was handed the ODI captaincy baton, fans began speculating about how Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli  both former skippers  would react. Was there a strain? A shift in dynamics? Gill has now set the record straight.

“Whatever the narrative might be outside, there has been no such thing between us. It’s just like old times,” Gill shared with reporters in Perth ahead of the series opener. “Rohit bhai is very helpful and always shares his experiences. I’ve been asking him for suggestions like, ‘What would you have done on this wicket if you were the captain?’ I love picking the brains of players like him.”

A Bond Built on Respect and Learning

The young captain also spoke fondly about his camaraderie with both veterans. “I have a good equation with both Virat and Rohit bhai. I always take their advice, and they never hesitate to share their thoughts,” Gill said, smiling.

His words reflect not only maturity but also deep respect for the legends he now leads. When India departed for their Australian tour, fans noticed Rohit hugging Gill warmly and Virat patting his back  a quiet yet powerful sign of unity in the dressing room.

“I Idolise Them” Gill on His Heroes

Gill didn’t shy away from acknowledging the enormity of the moment. “Obviously, these are the kind of players I used to idolise when I was growing up. The kind of hunger they had used to inspire me. It’s a big honour for me to lead such legends of the game,” he said emotionally.

He admitted that leading Rohit and Virat brings both pressure and pride. “There will definitely be moments where I’ll find myself in tough situations, and I won’t hesitate to seek their advice,” he added.

Carrying Forward a Glorious Legacy

Following in the footsteps of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma is no easy task. Each of them left behind a legacy of passion, leadership, and triumphs that defined an era of Indian cricket. Gill is aware of the expectations  but he seems ready for the challenge.

“Definitely, it’s very exciting. Big shoes for me to fill in and carry forward the legacy of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma. I’ve had so many learnings and experiences from them, and I’ll always carry those forward,” Gill stated confidently.

He also revealed that he’s been in constant touch with both senior players about the team’s direction and culture. “I’ve had numerous conversations with both Rohit and Virat on how to take the team forward and what kind of culture they want for Indian cricket. Those learnings will definitely help us grow as a unit,” Gill added.

A New Chapter in Indian Cricket

As the ODI series against Australia begins in Perth, all eyes will be on Shubman Gill  not just as a batter, but as a leader. The world is eager to see how this promising young captain handles the responsibility of guiding legends while carving his own path in Indian cricket history.

One thing is clear  Gill’s humility, respect, and willingness to learn might just be the foundation of a new and inspiring era for Team India.
