Renault Kwid to Get a Fresh Update:  For many first time car buyers in India, the Renault Kwid has been more than just a hatchback it has been a trusted companion on city streets and highways alike. Compact, stylish, and loaded with features despite its budget friendly price tag, the Kwid quickly found a special place in Indian households since its debut in 2015. Now, after nearly a decade on the road, Renault is preparing to give this much-loved hatchback another gentle makeover, ensuring it remains relevant in today’s fast-changing market.

Kwid’s Journey Through the Years

The Kwid has already seen one significant facelift back in 2019, which refreshed its looks and brought in new age appeal. More recently, in April 2023, Renault discontinued the smaller 800cc petrol engine, choosing instead to focus on its more capable 1.0 litre petrol unit. This engine, producing 67bhp and 91Nm of torque, was updated to comply with E20 fuel norms, making it both future ready and efficient.

Alongside, Renault also continued offering the CNG variant, tuned to deliver 56bhp and 82Nm, giving buyers an eco-friendly and economical option. Over the years, while its core design has stayed the same, the Kwid has consistently received updates like a digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, LED DRLs, 14 inch wheels, and safety essentials such as dual airbags keeping it one of the most feature-rich budget hatchbacks in its class.

The Upcoming Refresh  Subtle Yet Smart

Renault has confirmed that the next Kwid update will be a mild refresh rather than a complete redesign. Expect changes like new trims, minor styling revisions, and feature upgrades inside the cabin. These refinements are aimed at keeping the car appealing for modern buyers without straying too far from its trusted identity.

Mechanically, there are no big surprises the Kwid will continue with its 1.0 litre petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual and AMT gearbox, while the CNG option will also remain part of the lineup.

Standing Strong Against the Alto

Even today, the Kwid’s biggest rival remains the Maruti Suzuki Alto, another long time favorite of Indian families. While demand in this segment has dipped with compact SUVs gaining popularity, the Kwid still holds its ground as a smart, practical choice for first time buyers and budget focused families. With its updated look and features, Renault is clearly aiming to keep the Kwid competitive in 2025 and beyond.

Why Kwid Still Matters

The Kwid may not be reinventing itself with this refresh, but that’s exactly what makes it special. It doesn’t need to. By offering more than what one expects from an entry level hatchback style, features, practicality, and reliability the Kwid has always stood out in its class. This new update will only reinforce its value as one of India’s most dependable budget friendly cars.

For buyers searching for a compact, affordable, and feature-packed hatchback, the Kwid will continue to be a name worth trusting.
