Maruti Big SUV to Launch on 3 September:  The Indian SUV market is buzzing with excitement once again, as Maruti Suzuki prepares to take the wraps off its all-new SUV on 3 September 2025. Known for bringing practicality, affordability, and reliability to Indian roads, Maruti is now ready to step up its SUV game with a model that is expected to rival heavyweights like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and Toyota Hyryder.

Positioned Above the Brezza, Below the Grand Vitara

The upcoming SUV is expected to be the flagship product under the Arena dealership network, positioned above the Brezza but below the premium Grand Vitara sold via Nexa outlets. For now, the SUV is being referred to as the Maruti Escudo, though the final name will be confirmed at launch. Industry insiders suggest that it will be a longer, three row version of the Grand Vitara, offering more space for families while retaining the same robust platform.

Engine Options and What to Expect

Maruti is yet to officially reveal the specifications, but the Escudo is expected to feature the same engine line-up as the Grand Vitara. This includes the tried-and-tested 1.5L K15C petrol engine producing 103bhp, as well as a 1.5L Atkinson cycle petrol hybrid setup that delivers 115bhp in combination with an electric motor. On the Grand Vitara, this hybrid promises an impressive fuel economy of nearly 28 kmpl, and the same efficiency can be expected here.

The biggest surprise, however, is the inclusion of an underbody CNG kit a first for Maruti in India. This clever packaging ensures that buyers opting for the CNG variant will not have to compromise on boot space, making it even more appealing for practical minded families.

Raising the Stakes in the SUV Battle

By introducing the Escudo through its Arena outlets, Maruti is clearly targeting mass-market customers with competitive pricing. With three rows of seating, hybrid efficiency, petrol options, and even a CNG alternative, this SUV promises to be a well-rounded package. It represents Maruti’s intent to directly challenge the dominance of the Hyundai Creta and reclaim its top spot in the mid size SUV segment.
