A Celebration Spanning Three Days

In 2025, National Sports Day is expanding into a three day fitness movement from August 29 to 31, led by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. This year’s theme Ek Ghanta, Khel ke Maidan Main encourages citizens to dedicate at least an hour daily to physical activity. It’s a call to fight lifestyle diseases and to bring fitness into everyday routines.
States Gear Up for a National Movement
Preparations are underway across Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. From schools and panchayats to resident welfare associations and corporates, nearly 35 crore people are expected to participate. Chief ministers are personally monitoring the arrangements to ensure mass involvement.

This year’s programme highlights Olympic values Excellence, Friendship, and Respect and Paralympic values Courage, Determination, Inspiration, and Equality. These principles aim to inspire not just athletes but also ordinary citizens to live healthier and more meaningful lives.
Athletes Inspiring the Nation
Star athletes like Sumit Antil, Bhavani Devi, Vishnu Saravanan, Shreyasi Singh, and Pranav Soorma will join from their hometowns or training bases, motivating people to step into the playground. Sporting legends including PV Sindhu, Abhinav Bindra, Sunil Chhetri, Manika Batra, and Mirabai Chanu have also urged every Indian to actively participate.
Activities for All Ages
The three-day festival is designed for everyone
- Day One: Tributes to Dhyan Chand, Fit India pledge, and one hour of sports.
- Day Two: Sports debates, fitness talks, and indigenous games like kho-kho, kabaddi, sack race, and tug of war.
- Day Three: Fit India Sundays on Cycle, promoting cycling as part of daily life.
From children enjoying traditional games to youth sports competitions, yoga for adults, and fitness walks for seniors, the celebrations will cover all age groups.
Fitness Meets Sustainability
Adding innovation, a National Conclave on Sports Manufacturing will be held under the theme Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The Fit India Mobile App will also launch a carbon savings incentive feature, linking fitness with environmental consciousness.

This year, National Sports Day is not just a celebration but a movement of health, unity, and pride. With the motto “Har Gali, Har Maidan, Khele Saara Hindustan”, the nation is set to witness a powerful transformation where every home and every playground echoes the spirit of sports and fitness.
