Indian Railways Creates History: Over 230 Vehicles Unloaded Simultaneously in Jammu and Kashmir

In a proud and historic moment, Indian Railways has achieved a major milestone by simultaneously unloading two New Modified Goods (NMG) automobile rakes carrying over 230 Maruti Suzuki vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir.
This first of its kind operation took place at the Bari Brahmana Goods Shed in Jammu and the Anantnag Goods Terminal in South Kashmir, signalling a new era for freight logistics in the region. Just a week after the first ever automobile rake to Kashmir was launched, this accomplishment shows how rapidly India’s railway network is expanding its role in efficient and sustainable transport solutions.
A Landmark Moment for Rail Logistics
The two NMG rakes, loaded in Gurgaon, travelled all the way to Bari Brahmana and Anantnag, bringing a total of 231 vehicles safely to their destinations.
At Bari Brahmana, 113 vehicles were unloaded, while 118 vehicles were offloaded at Anantnag all in a single day. This marks the first simultaneous unloading of such a large automobile consignment in the history of the Jammu Railway Division.
The vehicles included some of Maruti Suzuki’s most popular models such as Alto, Brezza, Eeco, Dzire, Wagon R, S Presso, Ignis, Super Carry, and Ertiga.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal called it a “historic day for logistics in J and K,” emphasizing that more and more businesses are turning to Indian Railways because of its cost effectiveness, reliability, and speed.
Transforming How Vehicles Reach Kashmir
For decades, vehicles bound for the Kashmir Valley had to be driven from Jammu to Srinagar through the 270 kilometre Srinagar Jammu highway, a long and often challenging route affected by traffic and weather.
Now, with this new rail connectivity, vehicles can travel directly from the manufacturing plant to the Valley, saving precious time and reducing operational hassles for automobile dealers.
Local dealers hailed the move as a game changer.
“Earlier, it was hectic to move new vehicles from Jammu to Srinagar. Now they come directly by train saving time and effort for everyone,” shared a dealer from Srinagar.
Boosting Jammu and Kashmir’s Economic Growth
This development goes far beyond convenience it’s a symbol of economic progress for Jammu and Kashmir. The ability to move vehicles, goods, and industrial products efficiently by rail is opening new opportunities for trade and business across the region.
Notably, the automobile sector is now the second major industry using Indian Railways for bulk transportation in the region. Recently, Indian Railways also started ferrying Kashmiri apples directly to markets across India a move that’s revitalizing the agricultural economy as well.
As Uchit Singhal pointed out, Indian Railways is becoming a preferred choice for industries across sectors, from perishable goods and cement to courier services and automobiles. With its expanding freight network, the Railways is powering India’s vision of a faster, cleaner, and more connected economy.
A Journey Toward a Stronger, Connected India
The successful simultaneous unloading of over 230 vehicles is more than a logistics triumph it’s a reflection of India’s growing strength in infrastructure, coordination, and innovation.
By embracing rail based transportation, the nation is taking a bold step toward sustainability, economic growth, and regional inclusion. For Jammu and Kashmir, this is not just the arrival of cars it’s the arrival of progress, opportunity, and hope.
