LoL Worlds: Every League of Legends fan knows the magic of Worlds the rivalries, the nail biting matches, and the unforgettable stories etched into the game’s history. For North American fans, though, there’s always been a bittersweet question lingering in the background: Has NA ever won Worlds? The answer, sadly, is no. Despite being one of the game’s major regions since the very beginning, North America has never lifted the Summoner’s Cup.

NA’s Brightest Moment on the World Stage

The closest NA has ever come was in 2018, when Cloud9 carried the region’s hopes all the way to the semifinals. Their Cinderella run stunned the global scene as they took down some of Korea’s strongest teams, including reigning champion Gen.G and the Afreeca Freecs. For a moment, it felt like history was about to be rewritten. But the dream was cut short when Fnatic swept them 3 0, leaving NA in the 3rd 4th place range their deepest run ever.

Before that, there were sparks of hope. Cloud9 had respectable runs in 2016, and Team SoloMid once proudly flew NA’s flag in 2014 with a top five finish. Season 1 in 2011 even saw multiple NA teams TSM, Epik Gamer, and Counter Logic Gaming finish near the top, though that was before Korea and China established their dominance.

Why Has NA Struggled?

NA’s story at Worlds has often been one of “what ifs.” The region has faced challenges from tough group draws, roster instability, and the sheer dominance of Asian powerhouses. At times, NA’s performances have been painful to watch, with teams crashing out of groups without a single win. Still, those struggles have built resilience, fueling the community’s hunger to see their teams finally succeed.

Can NA Ever Lift the Summoner’s Cup?

Despite the heartbreak, there is reason for hope. Teams like Cloud9, TSM, Evil Geniuses, and 100 Thieves have carried NA’s banner on the international stage, and the region has been working hard to strengthen talent development. Rising stars like Fahad “Massu” Abdulmalek, alongside skilled imports, are raising the bar for what NA can achieve.

Interestingly, in recent years, NA has arguably outperformed Europe at Worlds, with EU failing to reach the bracket stage in 2023 and 2024 while NA teams advanced. That momentum hints at a future where the impossible could finally become reality.

The Dream Lives On

North America may not have touched the Summoner’s Cup yet, but their story is far from over. Each year, fans rally behind their teams with renewed hope, believing that this could be the season when history changes. Whether through grit, talent, or the perfect underdog run, the dream of NA lifting Worlds one day is still alive and maybe closer than we think.
