Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra Under Fire: It’s not every day that Bollywood’s glitz and glamour collide with courtroom drama, but the recent development surrounding actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra has left fans stunned. The Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has issued a lookout notice against the celebrity couple in connection with a Rs60 crore fraud case linked to their now defunct venture, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd.
Allegations of Financial Misconduct
The case stems from a complaint filed by businessman Deepak Kothari, who alleged that between 2015 and 2023, the couple took a staggering Rs60 crore from him under the promise of expanding their business. According to Kothari, the deal was presented as a loan that would be repaid with 12% annual interest, along with a written guarantee signed by Shilpa Shetty in April 2016.
However, things allegedly took a different turn. Instead of repayment, Kothari claims the funds were used for the couple’s personal expenses. To complicate matters further, the money was later shown as an investment, reportedly as a move to gain tax benefits.
Resignation and Hidden Insolvency Case
Adding to Kothari’s grievances, Shilpa Shetty resigned from her directorial position in Best Deal TV just a few months after signing the guarantee. He also discovered that the company was already facing an insolvency case worth Rs1.28 crore, information he says was concealed from him at the time of the investment.
These revelations, coupled with the missing repayment, form the crux of the Rs60 crore fraud allegation.
The Couple’s Response
Despite the serious accusations, both Shetty and Kundra have denied any wrongdoing. They have dismissed the case as “baseless and malicious”, calling it an attempt to tarnish their reputation.
Meanwhile, the EOW is now scrutinizing the couple’s travel logs and has even summoned the company’s auditor for questioning, signaling that the investigation is far from over.
