From Books to Values: In a time when mobile screens and social media dominate the attention of children, Udaipur became the stage for a refreshing reminder of the power of books, creativity, and values. The 16th National Children’s Literature Conference, jointly organized by Salila Sanstha Salumber and Rajasthan Sahitya Academy, lit up the Directorate of Adult Education with words of wisdom, poetry, and the promise of nurturing future generations.

Dr. Suraj Singh Negi’s Call to Protect Children from Digital Dependency

Presiding over the technical session, eminent litterateur, senior IAS officer, and pioneer of the Pati Lekhan Muhim, Dr. Suraj Singh Negi, gave a heartfelt presidential address. He cautioned against the growing digital addiction, reminding parents, teachers, and society of their duty: “Children today are becoming enslaved to mobile screens under the overpowering influence of social media. What they truly need are living ideals to emulate. Befriend children, nurture them with values, and let children’s literature become the beacon of this noble journey.”

Books as Family Investments  A Powerful Message

The conference was graced by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, President of India Netbooks, who emphasized the importance of making books a family investment, urging parents to allocate a portion of their budgets specifically for literature. His suggestion turned the spotlight on books as lifelong treasures rather than luxury items.

Adding further sparkle to the event, Meenu Tripathi and Zeeshan Haider Zaidi received the prestigious Sahitya Ratna Samman. The Book Review Session, presided over by Dr. Faheem Ahmed, highlighted the family’s role in nurturing creativity. Reviews of works like “Geet Suhane Bachpan Ke,” “Boojh Saheli, Meri Paheli,” and “6 Ankon ka Jadoo” showed how children’s literature innovatively blends imagination with practical lessons. These reviews celebrated the timeless role of books in shaping character, creativity, and curiosity.

A Poetry Symposium Filled with Emotions and Rhythms

The Children’s Poetry Symposium, chaired by Colonel Praveen Tripathi, was alive with heartfelt verses and powerful performances. From Ramdhari Singh Dinkar’s “Rashmirathi” to the soulful Mahishasur Mardini Stotra, the symposium created an atmosphere of pride and inspiration. Poets from across the nation added vibrant voices that celebrated innocence, values, and imagination.

A Literary Milestone for Rajasthan and Beyond

At the Valedictory Session, Dr. Vimla Bhandari, President of Salila Sanstha, called the event a true milestone in India’s literary journey. With writers and delegates from seven states and ten districts of Rajasthan, the conclave reflected cultural unity and literary pride. The conference concluded with the National Anthem, leaving behind an emotional sense of togetherness, creativity, and hope for the future of children’s literature.
