Shruti Haasan Breaks Silence: Shruti Haasan is currently enjoying the overwhelming success of her latest release Coolie, the much-talked-about gangster drama directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film, led by superstar Rajinikanth, hit theatres on August 14 and has already become one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. Amid the celebrations, Shruti has also been engaging with her fans, answering their curious questions with honesty and grace.
Shruti Responds to the Criticism
During a candid AMA session on Instagram, a fan asked Shruti whether it was fair that her character Preethi was shown as a “damsel in distress” in the movie. Shruti shared the fan’s question and replied, “She was in distress and it is someone else’s vision. Not about fair or unfair.” With this response, she gracefully reminded her followers that while actors breathe life into their characters, the creative direction is ultimately shaped by the filmmaker’s vision.
Preethi’s Journey in Coolie
In Coolie, Shruti plays Preethi, the daughter of Rajasekhar (played by Sathyaraj). After her father’s sudden death, Preethi seeks help from Deva (Rajinikanth), a former union leader, to avenge the injustice. The film’s narrative places her in vulnerable situations where she is abducted several times, but her presence adds an emotional depth to Deva’s mission.
Shruti had earlier shared in an interview that she was instantly drawn to the role. “When a project like this comes to you with an actor like that, a director like that, it’s already exciting. But I really liked the character of Preethi and what she brought to the story,” she said.
The Blockbuster Run of Coolie
Apart from Shruti and Rajinikanth, Coolie also stars Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Aamir Khan, and Sathyaraj, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. Released alongside Ayan Mukerji’s War 2, Coolie smashed box office records, collecting ₹150 crore worldwide on its opening day and crossing ₹230 crore in India within its first week.
As Shruti continues to charm audiences with her versatility, she also assured fans during her AMA that she will be doing more Tamil films soon. Her heartfelt honesty and openness have once again made her one of the most admired voices in the industry.
